President of the TSE meets with Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States

On Tuesday (13), Justice Dias Toffoli, president of the Electoral Superior Court (TSE) visited the Supreme Court of the United States, headquartered in Washington, D.C.  Accompanied by Luiz Alberto Figueiredo, Brazilian Ambassador in the U.S., he met with Justice Anthony Kennedy, one of the nine Justices of that U.S. Court.

After the audience with the U.S. Justice, the president of the TSE met with Nestor Mendez, assistant secretary general, and Francisco Guerrero, secretary for the strengthening of democracy, both members of the Organization of American States (OAS).

President´s Schedule

On Thursday (8), the president of the TSE met with Bill Sweeney, president and CEO of the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) and Chad Vickery, director of IFES´ Center for Applied Research and Learning.

On Friday (9), he spoke at the “Democracy Rebooted: The Future of Technology in Elections”, a conference organized by Atlantic Council, a prestigious U.S. think-tank. During his address in the panel called “New democracies, new technology”, Justice Dias Toffoli took the opportunity to highlight Brazil´s experience in computerized elections and the relevance of “high-tech mechanisms” in place in order to manage related electoral procedures.

Justice Dias Toffoli´s trip to the United States was organized at no cost to the TSE.
